British enthusiasts and re-enactors will be delighted to know that The English Experience Travels Ltd is offering a chance for them to visit the historic Battlefields of the American Civil War. Join us as we travel through the legendary sites of Bull Run, the Seven Days Battlefields, the Shenandoah Valley, Manassas and Gettysburg.
By no means exclusive to visitors from ‘across the pond’, this week-long tour is open to all those who want to gain a real knowledge of the events as they unfolded, in the company of an expert guide.
Prices are quoted in both British Pounds and US Dollars.

Single room supplement £265.00 or $530 USD

- Ground transportation for eight days in luxury 25-passenger mini-bus.
- Seven nights lodging (Saturday through Friday).
- All breakfasts and lunches (Sunday through Saturday).
- A welcome banquet Saturday night in Manassas, Va., and closing banquet Friday night in downtown Gettysburg.

TRAVEL DETAILS: Saturday, September 6:
Travel to USA. Fly from UK into Washington, DC. Dulles International Airport – under your own independent air travel arrangements. The group will convene at the airport on arrival and there will be a transfer to your overnight accommodations in Manassas, Virginia.

TOUR ITINERARY
Saturday night September 6
- Welcoming session and banquet dinner. Opening remarks by your Civil War Battlefields tour guide about the war and the itinerary of the week ahead. There will be a short Powerpoint presentation, followed by a question and answer session.
Sunday September 7
- We begin at the beginning, the Battle of First Manassas (Bull Run). Visitor Center and walking tour of the Henry House Hill, where Stonewall Jackson earned immortality with his stand. After lunch, we motor about 2.5 hours to Williamsburg for overnight.
Monday September 8
- We visit Freedom's Fortress, Fort Monroe and the Casemate Museum, an impregnable antebellum stone fort built by young Robert E. Lee, among others. It also served as a resettlement facility for freed slaves and the prison where Jefferson Davis was held for two years after the war.
- Mid-day we take lunch aboard the Miss Hampton II as it cruises the Hampton Roads Bay to the site of the clash of ironclads, the Monitor and Merrimac.
- Afternoon, we visit the Mariner's Museum in Newport News to see the new and impressive Monitor exhibit. Return to Williamsburg for overnight.
Tuesday September 9
- We motor about an hour to Richmond. Visit the Museum of the Confederacy, the Executive Mansion (known as the White House of the Confederacy) and the National Park Service's American Civil War Center at the Tredegar Iron Works. Lunch in downtown Richmond.
- Afternoon tour for an overview of several Seven Days battlefields. Overnight Richmond.
Wednesday September 10
- We motor south to Petersburg, about 45 minutes. Visit the site of the Battle of the Crater.
- Lunch at the Museum of the Civil War Soldier at Pamplin Park.
- Motor west to Farmville, Va. for overnight.
Thursday September 11
- We visit the surrender site at Appomattox Court House, then motor about 1.5 hours through the Blue Ridge Mountains to Lexington, Va.
- We visit the Virginia Military Institute and the grave sites of Stonewall Jackson and Robert E. Lee. Overnight in downtown Lexington, where we hold our closing banquet.
Friday September 12
- We drive through the beautiful scenery of the Shenandoah Valley, visiting the battlefield of New Market en route to Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, site of abolitionist John Brown's infamous raid, where we spend the afternoon.
- Motor to downtown Washington, D.C. hotel and adjourn.
Saturday – September 13
There will be a group transfer from your hotel to Washington’s Dulles International Airport for your return flight to the UK. (flights not included in the price of the tour)*

Please note: The Land Only Tour price is based on a minimum number of 15 participants. If the group size fails to reach 15 you will be notified. Do not purchase your airfare until you are advised that the tour will operate as shown. The English Experience Travels Ltd or its agents will not be responsible for expenses incurred should you fail to follow this advice.
A deposit of £200 (UK) per person is due by May 25, 2008. This deposit is fully refundable should the required minimum number of 15 participants not be reached.
